Curds of Wisdom: A Speaker Series for Affordable Housing in Wisconsin

August Session
Wednesday, August 12th | 12:00 – 1:00pm
Topic: The Ladder into Homeownership is Broken: What’s it Going to Take to Fix it?

Description:

DR Horton, Veridian, the Pulte group – these are names that many know when it comes to creating single-family housing in America.

But did you know that more than half of the single-family homes built in the United States are built by smaller format developers? These developers are often local, community focused, and committed to adding value to their community. However, being able to navigate the narrow path between profitability and affordability has become an ever-increasing maze. But without these small developers, Wisconsin communities have little hope of tackling the housing crisis.

While development has always been a challenge, the challenge has metastasized as prices escalate, government regulation increases, and the willingness of communities to accept something outside of the norm faces pushback. Hear from a panel who are trying new ways to create single-family housing in Wisconsin and building a better ladder for buyers, families, and everyone.

Panelists: Kaba Bah, CEO, Kaba Baal Development; Mason Cavell, Executive Director, Madison Area Community Land Trust; Aziz Housseini, CEO, Daha Sein Development; Devon Lee, CEO, Boundless Tiny Homes

Moderator: Todd Mandel, Executive Director, Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development
